Brandon Smith makes it 2 out of 3 with his win in the final night of the Mid America Modified Championship

BATESVILLE, Ark. (March 16) – Brandon Smith added a bookend trophy to his collection in Saturday’s Mid-America Modified Championship.

Better yet, he added a second $1,500 check to his earnings from over the course of the three-day IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified special at Batesville Motor Speedway
“After Thursday, as good as we were, I thought we might have a chance to win again,” said Smith, who enjoyed a long run at the front before finishing second to Jeff Taylor on Friday. “But these guys are tough to beat, especially Jeff. You never know how these races are going to play out.”

Wayne Brooks was third, Jason Wilkey fourth and Ronnie Jeffrey fifth in the finale.
As had been the case on opening night, Smith drew the outside row one start, with Taylor on the pole.

They’d swap the front spot early on, then run side-by-side or bumper-to-bumper for more than 15 circuits. Smith denied Taylor’s lower line bid while the two ran in lapped traffic, before the only caution of the night came out with eight to go.

Sticking with his preferred higher line, Smith pulled away on the ensuing restart and took the win well ahead of Taylor, who had his hands full holding off Brooks for second.

Smith had become eligible for the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot with his Thursday night victory.

Feature results – 1. Brandon Smith; 2. Jeff Taylor; 3. Wayne Brooks; 4. Jason Wilkey; 5. Ronnie Jeffrey; 6. Dallas Everett; 7. Mike Bowers; 8. Jeremy Tharp; 9. Jack Sullivan; 10. Brint Hartwick; 11. Troy Cordes; 12. Greg Waugh; 13. Gavin Landers; 14. James Emerson; 15. Mitchell Galloway; 16. Bill Pittaway; 17. Adam Maple; 18. Andy Krieger; 19. Jason Snyder; 20. Jordan Turner; 21. Derek Oberle.

Heat winners were Taylor, Smith, Tharp and Brooks

Jeff Taylor takes the win in night 2 of the Mid America Modified Championship

BATESVILLE, Ark. (March 15) – Jeff Taylor won both IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified features at Batesville Motor Speedway’s Mid-America Modified Championship last March.
He’s now half way toward matching that total at this year’s event.
After emerging with the second spot after a lengthy side-by-side-by-side battle with Troy Cordes and Adam Maple Friday night, Taylor passed long-time leader and opening night winner Brandon Smith following a restart just before midway.
He led the rest of the way, holding off Smith to the $1,500 checkers. Taylor has now won four 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events, most notably the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals.
Cordes prevailed in the tussle for third, on a track that stayed fast all the way around and from top to bottom. Wayne Brooks and Maple completed the top five.
The Mid-America Modified Championship concludes Saturday with another $1,500 to win main event.
Feature results – 1. Jeff Taylor; 2. Brandon Smith; 3. Troy Cordes; 4. Wayne Brooks; 5. Adam Maple; 6. Jason Wilkey; 7. Jack Sullivan; 8. Greg Waugh; 9. Mike Bowers; 10. Jordan Turner; 11. Jason Snyder; 12. Ronnie Jeffrey; 13. Mitchell Galloway; 14. James Emerson; 15. Kevin Goben; 16. Andy Krieger; 17. Gavin Landers; 18. Drew Armstrong; 19. Derek Oberle; 20. Bennett Johnson; 21. Brint Hartwick; 22. Dallas Everett; 23. Bill Pittman; 24. Rick Engles.
Heat winners were Goben, Smith, Everett and Maple.

Mid America Modified Championship Night 1 goes to Brandon Smith

BATESVILLE, Ark. (March 14) – One of the last cars through the pit gate was first across the finish line on opening night of Batesville Motor Speedway’s Mid-America Modified Championship.

Brandon Smith was the $1,500 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature winner Thursday evening, taking the checkers close to a straightaway ahead of runner-up Wayne Brooks.

Smith started outside Jeff Taylor on the front row, shot to the front at the flagstand and led all 30 laps.

He caught up with the back of the field on the 10th circuit. Lapped traffic almost became a factor with 10 to go as Smith had to avoid contact with a slower car exiting the track.

“We didn’t run away from the field. We had a very good car but it helped to restart up front,” said Smith, an IMCA winner for the first time since the 2011 season.

Dallas Everett was third, Taylor fourth and Jack Sullivan fifth. Taylor had won both Mid-America Modified features held last year.

“I’ve raced with Jeff a lot of times over the years. He always races you clean,” said Smith, a late arrival to the track because of work. “He’s always a contender. I know he’ll be back on Friday.”
The victory was the sanctioned career sixth for Smith, the newest addition to the 2013 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

Features Friday and Saturday also pay $1,500 to win.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. both days. Hot laps are at 6:30 and racing starts at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $10 for adults and free for kids 11 and under when accompanying a paying adult. Pit passes are $30 each night.

Feature results – 1. Brandon Smith; 2. Wayne Brooks; 3. Dallas Everett; 4. Jeff Taylor; 5. Jack Sullivan; 6. Wendell Wallace; 7. Ronnie Jeffrey; 8. Jeremy Tharp; 9. Jason Wilkey; 10. Mitchell Galloway; 11. Randy Weaver; 12. Rick Ingles; 13. Kevin Goben; 14. Gavin Landers; 15. Adam Maple; 16. Jason Snyder; 17. Brent Hartwick; 18. Drew Armstrong; 19. Andy Krieger; 20. Bill Pittman; 21. Shawn Knuckles; 22. Greg Waugh; 23. Troy Cordes; 24. Jordan Turner.

Heat winners were Taylor, Smith, Everett and Galloway.

Wayne Brooks Wins the 17th Annual Schoenfeld Headers Street Stock Championship

Wayne Brooks takes home the win in the 17th Annual Schoenfeld Headers Street Stock Championship race on Thursday night at the Batesville Motor Speedway. Tony Anglin in the G1 started on the poll and it looked like he had the race won, but after a number of cautions and restarts Tony never got the opportunity to build a good lead on the remainder of the field. Tony managed to hold second place with T.J. Herndon's 35 car finishing 3rd and the KEG1 of Jeremy Russell finishing 4th.
